Web13 dec. 2024 · Monaincha abbey is a twelfth century simple church with a beautifully carved Romanesque doorway and chancel. When built it was raised on an island in the middle of a lake but the land was subsequently reclaimed for farming. The Council hopes to lay a path, interpretative signage and secure entry to the site as part of Monaincha Discovery Walk. WebCollected from hotel and brought on an eco tour of Monaincha Bog which once was a vast lake and was drained in the 1790s. It has many mini-canals which were used to transport peat to the nearby Birch Grove House Distillery for the drying of the malt. It has amazing flora and fauna and provides a chance to view a working bog in action.
