WebTurned out there is a switch in the harness of the starter switch that engages when you start the bike. Im sure you've noticed that when the key is turned to on the headlight comes on then when you engage the starter switch they turn off then back on when the bike is running. The connector comes from your light switch on your left bar. i zipped tied mine into place above the horn and they seem to be working fine now, but will have the connector replaced soon.
